Dr. Greggory Pinto introduces GreenLight Laser Therapy – A minimally invasive treatment option for men with an enlarged prostate.
GreenLight™ Laser Therapy for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), is now being performed by Dr. Greggory Pinto, urologist at Family Medicine Center.
BPH, commonly known as an enlarged prostate, is a non-cancerous condition that can interfere with the normal flow of urine. Men with BPH may experience a weak or interrupted urinary stream, difficulty beginning urination, frequent or urgent urination, a feeling that the bladder has not completely emptied, or the need to urinate several times during the night.
How GreenLight Laser Therapy works
GreenLight Laser Therapy is a minimally invasive procedure that uses laser energy to remove excess prostate tissue that is restricting the flow of urine. The procedure is performed through the urethra, without an external surgical incision. As obstructing tissue is vaporized, the urinary passage is opened to help improve urine flow and relieve symptoms associated with BPH.
Clinical studies have found GreenLight therapy to provide symptom improvement comparable to transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), a long-established surgical treatment for BPH. Studies have also reported advantages including reduced bleeding and shorter catheterization and hospital stays in appropriate patients.
Expanding treatment options for men with BPH
The introduction of GreenLight Laser Therapy provides another treatment option for FMC patients experiencing troublesome symptoms from an enlarged prostate, particularly when symptoms are affecting daily life or have not been adequately managed with medication.
Not every BPH treatment is appropriate for every patient. Dr. Pinto can evaluate a patient’s symptoms, medical history and individual circumstances to determine whether GreenLight Laser Therapy or another treatment approach is most appropriate.
Men experiencing persistent changes in urination or other symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate are encouraged to speak with their physician or schedule a urology consultation with Dr. Greggory Pinto at Family Medicine Center.
