Executive summary: Sir Roland’s legacy begins with his determination
to succeed. As well as facilitating the development of the Bahamas, his
shrewd business sense gained him great wealth and political influence. In
1964, he became the first Premier of the Bahamas and is noted as the longest
serving member of the House of Assembly (52 years). He is remembered for his
dedicated service to the Bahamian people.
