GGYA Mural Celebrates Independence

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Independence, the Governor General’s Youth Award (GGYA) received the green light from the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture to paint a mural on a portion of the perimeter wall of the Thomas A. Robinson stadium.

The mural fuses the GGYA’s brand with national symbols such as the Bahamian flag, the pink flamingo, the yellow elder and blue marlin.

The number 40 commemorates the birth of The Bahamas in becoming an Independent nation in 1973. The bird design nestled inside the zero is the GGYA’s logo.

The July 20, artwork marks the second time the youth organization has partnered with the ministry to produce a wallscape at the stadium. Last November the GGYA was responsible for painting the existing wall murals as a part of the ministry’s second annual Youth In Action Day.
