Bahamas’ Best Pizza

Food & Dining

Humans have been eating pizza for over a thousand years! The earliest recording of the word pizza was around A.D. 997 in Central Italy. The word referred to a focaccia-like bread, rather than the pizza we know and love today.

Pizza took an innovative turn with the addition of tomato sauce in the 16th century in Naples. Some will say it is the birthplace of pizza as we know it. After World War II, pizza and other Italian foods gained even more global popularity.

Arguably, the original pizza consists of tomato, oregano, garlic, and extra virgin olive oil. The famous Margherita pizza was born in 1889 with the addition of mozzarella and basil. Named after Queen Margherita of Savoy.

With literally endless options for topping combinations, it’s no wonder over 5 billion pizzas are eaten worldwide each year. Without question though, the most popular topping for pizza is pepperoni!
